Black Church Political Mobilisation
A Manifesto for Action
The National Church Leaders Forum (NCLF)[1] had its first meeting at Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) in May 2011 and was attended by key leaders of the African and Caribbean churches in the UK. Its main purpose was to look at how African and Caribbean churches effectively serve their communities and the wider society, especially how it engages with political issues and policy makers.
Purpose of the Questionnaire:
The purpose of the questionnaire is to elicit the views and opinions of African and Caribbean pastors and leaders on a range of social and political issues to inform the Black Church Political Mobilisation: A Manifesto for Action. Following a series of consultations last autumn with activists (OBV, London), academics (Queen’s College, Birmingham), church leaders (NTCG Leadership Training Centre, Northampton) and young people (CTE, London) the questionnaire is designed to further canvass the views of the wider church leadership, especially those who were unable to attend the autumn consultations. Responses will be used to inform the draft document and its final recommendations.
This is the first time we are trying to mobilise the African and Caribbean Church constituency in this way to engage with the wider political issues. Therefore, we would like to urge and encourage leaders to complete the Questionnaire so that we, like the men and women of Issachar, can better ‘understand the times’ (1 Chron. 12:32) and what we must do to be ‘salt and light’ (Matt. 5:13-16) in our communities.
All responses will be treated in confidence and in accordance with the standard UK Privacy Regulations and Research Ethics. Anonymity will be guaranteed and permission will be sought from respondents in advance of the circulation of the draft publication.
